今天VITA出門前就看到這個很漂亮的小盒子。上面的紙條寫著「給VITA」,可是生日才剛過啊?難道是遲來的生日禮物嗎?

不過這個很有設計感的包裝引起VITA的好奇心。不管了,先拿回房間打開來看看是什麼東西?

這個外表設計感覺還滿輕巧的,是我的生日蛋糕嗎?

等一下!這個LOGO滿眼熟的,看這外包裝難道是我期待已久的…

事不宜遲,就趕快把它打開來看看吧。

打開盒子,是一支感覺很輕巧的機器。好精巧可愛喔。

沒錯耶,就是我一直很想要的DRIFT HD GHOST,就是這個!

它除了可以廣角捕捉到更多的畫面,也可以高速攝影拍下VITA在賽道上馳騁的速度感。

看來就算下次帶著它去跑沙漠,或者是到海邊游泳都沒問題!

沒想到裡面的包裝也這麼得仔細,感覺像是放在珠寶盒裡面一樣。

你看,不說還以為是什麼精品展示盒。

先來看一下它裡面除了質感很好的包裝盒之外,所附的配件也很有誠意喔!

真不虧是國際大廠呢!

裡 面除了Drift HD Ghost攝影機之外,還有1700 mAH的鋰電池、mini USB線、3.5 mm延長線、雙向遙控器、尾蓋、說明書和各式匹配接頭。感覺真的有誠意又好豐富喔,而且容納這些周邊配件的小白盒子,也是一個便攜盒。這些哩哩摳摳的大小 零件,通通放在盒子裡面。而且盒子內還貼心的附有micro SD放置槽,通通和micro SD卡放在一起很容易收納取用。

除了能錄製Full HD的影片之外,在設定720p的解析度之下,可以達到每秒60個frame,在848×480的解析度更可以錄到120個frame的高速錄影。 VITA恨不得現在趕快裝上它,帶著去咻咻跑兩圈喔!(有沒有這麼快?)

它在靜態攝影之下,可以達到1千1百萬畫素的照片。

更令人驚奇又開心的是,它居然在APP STORE上面有專用的APP耶!

這下除了可以在VITA的iPhone上面觀看拍出來的影片、相片,而且還可以馬上做影片編輯喔。遠端設定、查看電池電量和記憶卡容量使用APP來操控真的是非常的輕鬆方便。

不過使用Andriod手機的朋友也不必擔心,之前VITA在它官網上有看到,未來也可以在Google Play搜尋到「Drift App」囉。

更不用說單單只憑攝影機本體,就可以耐得住在水深三公尺的水壓而不需要加裝任何的防水設備。

WHAT IF YOU COULD STOP TIME? WOULD YOU STOP TIME?
At the critical points of a racetrack to become a better and quicker driver? Would you stop time to look at your vehicle and engine parameters to make tuning changes that would make your car quicker on the track? While there still isn’t a time machine available to the public, AiM Sports offers products that deliver the same valuable information without affecting time’s status as a constant. Recently, we evaluated AiM’s Solo DL Data logging GPS based lap timer and the AIM SmartyCam while at the 2013 Nissan GT-R experience. After using the system, we can’t imagine hitting a track day event without the system on board. Capturing the synchronized sights, sounds, ECU data and GPS-based track data simultaneously provides an exceptionally valuable snapshot in time that allows both drivers and machines to become faster on track.

AiM Sports Solo
The AiM Sports Solo GPS Lap Timer uses its GPS position to identify a track from its internal database of race courses from around the world. This allows for quick and automatic sampling of lap times. The Solo features a built-in, three-axis internal accelerometer that reads up to 6Gs of acceleration. With 16MB of internal memory, the Solo records speed, acceleration, deceleration and track position at 10Hz (ten times per second). By using the RaceStudio2 software, the Solo’s logs can be reviewed to see exactly what was happening to the vehicle at every position on track. This allows track mapping the exact driving line of the course for each lap. When the driver takes a different line, it’s easy to determine if it’s quicker or slower at each part of the course. The Solo also features predictive lap times. This function predicts a completed lap time based on your current lap’s pace. If you are in need of 0-60, 1/8-mile and 1/4-mile performance data, the Solo has these tests built into the unit. It’s hard to build an argument for not having a Solo in any vehicle that sees a track. That is unless you have the budget to step up to the ECU datalogging version of the Solo, the Solo DL.

Keep it on the DL
The Solo DL has all of the features of the Solo plus it delivers two very important and valuable functions. First, the “DL” allows for data logging from the vehicle’s ECU through the OBD-II or CAN bus. Chances are that it works with the ECU in your car as the DL can connect and communicate with over 300 supported ECUs. This allows the Solo DL to record up to 100 additional channels of information from the ECU. The number of channels that are accessible is dependent upon the ECU itself. In the case of the R35 Nissan GT-R, 25 channels of data can be recorded. These include critical engine and system parameters, as well as driver inputs. The second advantage of the Solo DL over the Solo, is the ability to connect to the AiM
SmartyCam. With the SmartyCam linked to the Solo DL, the SmartyCam’s on-board camera video and audio is automatically synchronized with all of the data recorded by the Solo DL.

Get Smart with a Cam
The AiM Sports SmartyCam is designed to work in one of three different modes: stand-alone, ECU bridge and AiM-Logger mode. In stand-alone, the SmartyCam’s integrated GPS and 3D accelerometer provide position, lap time, speed, distance, acceleration and track mapping. The data is similar to the data captured by the Solo lap timer, but without the advantage of having the display information from the Solo unit. This means there is not a display of the lap time or the predictive lap time. The ECU bridge mode requires the purchase of an “ECU Bridge” that connects to the CAN or OBD-II port of the ECU. This mode allows the SmartyCam to record data from the factory ECU.
Once again, there is not a way to display lap times or predictive lap times in this mode. In the AiM-Logger mode, the SmartyCam interfaces with the Solo DL or other AiM logger to synchronize the video and audio stream from the SmartyCam with the engine ECU and GPS data streams from the Solo DL.
With the SmartyManager software, you can set up real-time data overlays on the video without any post processing needed. This allows playback of the on-board video with acceleration, throttle, speed, brake, speed, engine speed, lap number and gear position.
The SmartyCam records video in a DV-quality 720 x 400 pixel format at 30 frames per second. The compression codec used is H.264 which allows about 4 hours recording time on a 4GB MicroSD card. The rechargeable battery lasts up to 3 hours per charge. The on-board display is helpful for confirming the site picture of the camera during setup.

The right tool gets the job done sooner. While unlimited access to a race
track, tires, brake pads, fuel, professional instruction and seat time will allow
anyone to become a better driver, we’ve never met anyone blessed with
those opportunities. Having tools like the Solo DL and SmartyCam allow a
driver to get the most from every track session.

Lexus RX450h – Driving Harmonized

In a world of increasing complexity and technological advances. The right dose of simplification is a treasure. Take the iPhone as an example it’s such a big hit because it makes technology not only reserved for the geeks. The reason i bring this up is because there are so much technology in this RX450h but when you drive it, it simply is “switch on and go” no fuzz no suspension setting, no gear speed setting, no power output setting etc. And she does its job so bliming well too.

On the out set it’s the best selling SUV in the domestic market, beating all the European counter parts, that’s already an achievement. This “new” RX450h has been face lifted along with the F-Sport package. Not every brand makes it work when they add their sport line heritage to their mass production line. Here the difference that is obvious is the “Spindle Grille” other than that it’s a mere marketing gimmick, with “F” badges stuck on the body and interior. It’s a conservative looker, never anything wrong, but just don’t expect to be hyped.

Inside you would be expecting more (lot more for the asking price). There is no fancy LCD display, typical Lexus buttons controls the functions of the car. The center console is airy, you feel the roominess. Once you hit the start button, things start to change.

The dashboard is illuminated with a sci-fi blue, with the rpm counter replaced with a “Power-Eco-Charge” display. Notch the conventional auto gear lever into Drive, the car moves in silence… Thinking am i just rolling off a slope, it’s actually running off the battery juice. Until the battery runs low or you press harder on the throttle the engine kicks into life. Perfect for sneaking back home at early hours.

In the F-Sport package there is a Sport mode, hit it and the dash  change to red and the steering, suspension and engine tightens up, from a soft cruiser to an urban dashing SUV. There is a sense of slickness in the drive, though there are at times where the slickness feels slight artificial, but you’d need to be hyper-sensitive to complain about that.

On top of that you still get a superb fuel economy of a comparable 1,500cc sedan. The hybrid is so clever that you don’t really feel it’s there.

RX450h takes all the driving matter and simplifies it. You think less of the things that don’t matter and focuses you to the things that matter. Driving Harmonized.

When the Megane Mark III was first launched in 2008, followed a mix reactions, loosing its distinctive hatchback looks, but came a new cross hatchback practically with coupe lines. The RS version redesigned front distinctive front splitter integrated with LED daylights, flared arches and side skirts, one piece spoiler and center exit exhaust, was highly recognizable.

2.0L twin-scroll turbo 4-cylinder engine rated 265 PS at 5500 rpm with 6-speed manual gearbox, Renault in-house tuned Cup Chassis with reworked suspensions. Were the center piece in breaking the front wheel drive lap record of the world renowned Nordschleife, Nurburgring.
Having own a R26, I was expecting this car to be another stunner, but the initial reaction was not quite what I had in mind. A few things were off putting to say the least, the looks were good, I loved the sleek coupe’ish lines, the front splitter gave an aggressive stance and touched up with the integrated LED daylight. Rear end looks urban, small boot lid means that getting things in and out might be more hassle, but there is sufficient space.
The interior was a little confusing, carbon trims, shinny “Piano finished” and chrome plastics, and worst of all the chrome surround on the dials, it looked like a French taxi. The buttons for the climate control and the CD player are small, and needs to get your eyes off the road to find the right button to press.
Initial putter around town weren’t impressive either, the gearbox chunky, feel of the pedals were very light, clutch bite point un-communicative. It really was not leisurely to get it around town. Once the road opened up, change to Sports mode everything changed.
The sports mode changes the engine response and the traction control to sport, snatch into 2nd gear, any revs above 3000rpm, the engine is so responsive, it’s a twin scroll turbo, though you can’t feel it, the power and torque is so linear. It just hurls you along like no other business. The exhaust isn’t exactly the pipes of an opera, but you feel and hear the boost trenching in with a mindful roar. The rev warning beeps, grab 3rd and do it over again, and again. As the speed builds, the chassis and suspension seems to come alive.
Chassis is sturdy, there is less of the tail happiness from R26R, you can just bang it through the gears through a long high speed corner without realizing the actual speed you’re doing, the suspension you can feel it was tuned for “enthusiastic use”, the bound stroke of the suspension travel is very balanced, the rebound stroke seems to give you even more grip as you accelerate, what a fantastic setup and for a front wheel drive “small family” car, not sure what kind of family is that, but hell if that family bought this car, sure they are an exciting family.

The Mclaren MP4-12C, ok  so everybody’s first question how does it compare with Ferrari 458. Having been driving the Ferrari 458 a lot for the past month, she is still the benchmark of Super Car no doubt. I had to be fair and honest when I came to the Mclaren, really start with a fresh page. Of course expectation were high as the last Mclaren was in a league of its own with the F1. MP4-12C is designed with a slight different concept in mind, a Super Car with user friendliness and won’t be a pain for daily (or in most cases weekly) use.

On the out set from the concept drawings the car seems to be focus in the functional direction, where aerodynamic and engineering dictates the main focus of the exterior design. Which is where the problem lies, there is absolutely nothing “wrong” with the car, but she just seem so CAD (computer aided design). I seriously like the shape fast flowing shape, the scissors doors and even more stunning sitting still with them opened, just like an eagle spreading its wings. The discrete, hyper urban tail lights and exhaust exits then how it integrates seamlessly with the hydraulic spoiler. Everything is so precise and seamlessly purposeful.

First thing first, as a frequent used car, it does have some annoying issues, the “slide to unlock” door, and it’s not just me, the dealer did advise on how to “more easily” get the door opening mechanism right with slide and pause at the end of the motion etc. That didn’t really work, the hit rate is still around 30%, and truth be told it’s fancy, but do we really need more trouble with opening the door and maybe considering sometimes the weather is not always kind. More below par features like some of the interior touch are less than luxury as expected in a car in this price range, the sound system seems rather incompetent. The media system is fancy, but only to find the system is rather “simple” comparing to even typical German sedans, system from the likes of Audi, Mercedes, BMW etc. Offers way more features and important information to the driver. So it seems initially it does not make the cut for the daily super car that we expect this century.

But as a super car to drive it’s simply epic…!!! The engineers in Woking simply got the formula for the dynamics so RIGHT.
