Luna C May Have The Most High-Tech Drivers at the Rolex 24 at Daytona
When GRAND-AM introduced the GX class to bring new technologies to the Rolex Sports Car Series, Luna-C Clothing was introducing technology-infused clothing. For Luna-C owner and gentleman driver Lee Davis, as well as his longtime co-driver Ryan Eversley, the chance to demonstrate their clothing technology in GRAND-AM was too good to pass up – and both will compete in the no. 38 BGB / Luna-C Porsche Cayman GX.R in next week’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.
Davis, from Atlanta, Georgia, enters his first Rolex 24 at Daytona after seasons spent racing in the Cayman Interseries presented by Napleton Porsche as well as the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge. Eversley, from Dacula, Georgia, was Davis’s co-driver in the Cayman Interseries and is a perennial championship contender in the CTSCC and has participated in several of the twice-around-the-clock contests. The two were able to log three days of trouble-free running in the no. 38 BGB / Luna-C Porsche Cayman GX.R at the Roar Before the 24, with Eversley recording the second-fastest time of the weekend in the GX class as he helped Davis get up to speed in the Rolex Sports Car Series.
“This marks my fifth Rolex 24 at Daytona and I’m extremely excited to get to team with my student and friend, Lee, for his first,” said Eversley. “I know as soon as we take the grid and the race starts, Lee will get that bug that everyone gets from the 24 hour and he’s going to already start thinking about next year!”
“I think Ryan might be right!” said Davis. “The Rolex 24 at Daytona is such a special event and I’ve dreamed about being a part of it for the past few years. It’s an honor to have the opportunity to participate, especially in a new class, with great drives and on an awesome team. It’s exciting. Ryan has done a great job in helping me get ready and the guys at BGB Motorsports have built a great racecar. I’m very used to racing a Porsche Cayman so stepping into this car felt very familiar. It’s been a great experience so far – not only from a driving standpoint, but from a sponsorship standpoint as well.”
Not only will Davis and Eversley be counting on their no. 38 BGB / Luna-C Porsche Cayman to give them an edge on the competition, their clothing will help them gain an advantage as well. Underneath their racing suits, Davis and Eversley will have Luna-C technology-infused clothing such as the 2CoolShirt by Luna-C, which not only keeps them cooler than regular driver cooling systems, but has been treated with the Luna-C’s energear™ technology. To reinforce the technology, the pattern on the nose of the no. 38 BGB / Luna-C Porsche Cayman is patterned after the energear clothing.
The 2CoolShirt was developed in conjunction with CoolShirt Systems, which are used by most drivers in Grand-Am as well as over 30,000 race car drivers worldwide.
“Luna-C not only makes great clothing, but they also use technology in the fabric that keeps the drivers cool and focused,” said Eversley. “Plus they make a bunch of cool stuff to wear away from the track. I’m really happy to carry the flag for them and energear during the Rolex 24!”
“We are excited to demonstrate these technologies at the Rolex 24 at Daytona,” said Davis. “The 2CoolShirt by Luna-C features coldblack®, which reduces heat build-up and provides reliable protection from UV, and energear, an energy recovery system for the body. Studies have shown that energear can enhance performance, improve balance, increase concentration, and prevent fatigue – which is particularly suited for racing. A driver is always looking for that extra edge, and although energear will not make you Superman, it has the ability to activate that ‘in the zone’ feeling that just might make the difference.”
Davis and Eversley will be joined by Eric Foss, Jeff Mosing, and John Tecce in the no. 38 BGB / Luna-C Porsche Cayman GX.R for the Rolex 24 at Daytona.
